Organic Xufu Longya is a relatively new tea from Sichuan, that is gaining remarkable popularity in the recent years. This fragrant green tea has won seven Gold medals in world famous tea competitions. Furthermore it is harvested from high altitude tea gardens and has acquired an QS certificate and an Organic tea certificate.

Our first impression of this patch of early spring tea (early flushes Feb 2009) is indeed that this tea possess remarkable fragrance, similar to that of fresh bamboo. The taste of the first infusion is brisk and rouses the senses. This wonderful fragrance lasts up to three rounds. Tasting is believing. Whereas Qing tea attempts to keep tea affordable for everyone, this tea is a bit higher priced than usual, but due to its remarkable qualities and because it is organic, we still decided to add this tea to our collection. And we highly recommend it !

Appearance Leaf: straight and heavy tea buds, mostly unfolded leaves. Tender greenish sheen all over flat-sword shaped tea.

Liquid: Crystal-clear light yellow color. Tea liquid of second round might contains some fine hairs from tea buds. Please see Brewing section for the best tea preperation.

Taste: First round and second is mellow and fresh to palates. Gentle sweetness appears quick and lingers on. Third round is lighter yet rich in sugary flavor.

Origin: West Yellow Mountain, Yibin City, Sichuan Province

Harvest: February 28th, 2009 (Early Spring tea, Ming Qian)

To brew Organic Xufu Longya, first put dry tea leaves (ratio leaves to water, 1:50) into the gaiwan, porcelain or glass teapot, then pour 85 degree boiled water into the teaware.(not directly on the leaves) Dont oversteep this tea as it will turn bitter.

Another brewing method that can be used for this tea is to first pour boiled water to about one third of the glass/cup/teapot, next put dry tea leaves in the glass and then again pour 90 degree hot water into the glass/cup/teapot till about 70%.This method is often used as a way to avoid the tender leaves to become damaged by the cooking hot water. Steeping time for first round can be up to 15 to 30 seconds. Steeping time can be prolonged with each subsequent brew. Xufu Longya can be brewed for more than 3 rounds.

For additional methods see our detailed description with photo's on our blog (click here) disclaimer: I personally would not steep the tea longer than 20 seconds first round and not 4 minutes as the tea company adviced.
